NW831 · NW840 · NW840-W — Three build-ups on one operating principle
Single Panel Operable Partitions
A single panel operable partition is an operable wall in which every panel travels on its own. Panels hang from an overhead track, seal against floor and ceiling through a retractable top seal and a bottom pressure bar, and stack at one end or into a pocket when the opening is clear. Because no panel is tied to its neighbour, a single panel run can turn a corner, follow a curve, or leave a part-width opening anywhere along the track.

Manual seal operation on all three — one lever sets top and bottom seal
Single or paired hinged panels: a project decision, not a model limit
How It Operates
1
Release the Seals
The operating lever retracts the top and bottom seals at once, so the panel is free to travel. One lever, one movement, both seals.
2
Move the Panel
Panels are rolled along the overhead track by hand. In single panel configuration one panel is handled at a time.
3
Position and Align
Panels are pushed to the closing line and interlock, keeping the run straight and the joint line even.
4
Set the Seals
The lever is turned again to extend the seals. The top pressure seal closes against the track and the bottom pressure bar drops onto the floor.

Construction Details - Single Panel Partitions
A NEUWALL single panel partition is a layered assembly: a frame, a full-height acoustic core and factory-finished facings, with the seal mechanism running inside the panel. The drawings below show how the panel is built, how it hangs, how panels meet at a joint, how they park when open, and how door leaves are integrated.

Panel Anatomy
What Is Inside the Panel
Top pressure seal - a rubber strip carried on a retractable bar, extended by the winding mechanism to close against the track.
Winding mechanism - one crank drives the top and bottom seal bars together, through a rack inside the panel.
Steel braced frame - a welded frame that keeps the panel square through the cycles, so the seals land where they were set.
Telescopic sleeve panel - the last panel in a run opens out to close the final gap, with seals on all four edges.

Panel Structure
NW831 - Section, Head and Base
Frame - anodised aluminium, with vertical profiles that carry the sealing strip.
Core - full-height rock wool, with no voids between core and frame.
Facings - 9 mm MDF bottom face on NW831 and 13 mm on NW840 and NW840-W.
Suspension - top hung on hanger rods, rail clip and nylon wheel.
Sealing - top pressure seal with rubber strip; retractable bottom pressure bar drops onto the floor on closure.

Panel Joint
Horizontal Section Through the Joint
Lever closure - the operating handle draws the meeting edges together, so the joint closes before the seals are set.
Bulb seal - a full-length compressible seal at the wall jamb, which is where the first panel takes up the building tolerance.
Joint with and without vertical trim - the same joint drawn for a trimmed and a trimless edge.
Shown as a typical arrangement - joint detailing is confirmed on the shop drawing.

Panel Build-up
NW840-W - Steel Frame Panel
Steel frame - the reason NW840-W is the heavy build and the reason it reaches Rw 50 / 53 / 55 dB.
Four-finger seals - the joint carries a multi-finger seal rather than a single strip, which is where the acoustic gain over NW840 comes from.
Jack mechanism - the seal bars are driven from a jack inside the panel rather than a simple lever link.
Edge - trimless at 92 mm, trimmed at 96 mm. The thickness differs because the trim sits outside the frame line.

Track and Suspension
Single Point and Twin Point Suspension
Single point - one carrier per panel, used on shorter panels and lighter runs.
Twin point - two carriers per panel, spreading the load over a longer panel and holding it against twist.
Headroom - the space above the track to the structural slab is by others, and is set from the finished floor line on site.

Stacking
Single Roller - Six Stacking Arrangements
Six standard arrangements for a single roller set, drawn in plan against a wall return or a recess.
A hinged pass door can be built into the stack end, so the opening stays usable while the wall is parked.
Arrangement is chosen on the stacking area available, not on the model - all three models stack the same way.

Stacking
Double Roller - Five Stacking Arrangements
The double roller set carries a heavier panel, or the same panel at greater height, over two carriers.
Required where the panel weight or the panel height takes the load beyond what a single carrier is set for.
Used on the tall and heavy builds - see Tall Openings for the steel track version.

Pass Doors
Telescopic Panel and Hinged Door
Telescopic panel - a narrow leaf that draws out of the stack to close the last gap, so a door can be formed without a full panel width of stacking space.
Hinged door - a full-height leaf within the run, hung on the panel frame, for a normal single-leaf opening.
Both are available with a lock. Pass door type is fixed on the shop drawing, because it changes the stacking length.

Note on acoustic data: the figures quoted as Rw are laboratory airborne sound insulation ratings for the panel build-up (ISO 717-1). Rw and STC are not interchangeable and are never converted into one another. STC appears in this range only where an ASTM E90 / ASTM E413 report exists, and the one report on file (XMIN180500970CCM) is for a specimen of 52.4 kg/m², which matches the NW840-W weight band more closely than any other model. The report has not yet been matched to a part number, so it is marked △ and must not be quoted as a model rating until that match is confirmed.
How the Seals Are Operated
There are two ways to drive the seals. One is fitted to every model; the other is fitted to NW840-W only.
Push-to-Extend Spring Mechanism. The mechanism is a spring-loaded winding unit with a crank handle on the panel face. One turn of the crank drives the top pressure seal against the track and drops the bottom bar onto the floor together. The spring does the work of holding the seals extended once they are set, so the panel stays sealed whether or not anyone is holding the handle. That is what makes it the default on every model in the range.
Jack-type Mechanism. The mechanism is a screw jack mounted on the steel braced frame inside the panel. Turning the jack raises and lowers the seal bars against a fine thread, so the seal is set to a repeatable position rather than by feel. It takes more room in the panel and more turning, and it is heavier, which is why it is a NW840-W option only - the steel frame is what carries it.

How it works
A spring-loaded winding unit with a crank on the panel face. One turn drives the top pressure seal against the track and the bottom bar onto the floor together.
A screw jack on the steel braced frame inside the panel raises and lowers the seal bars against a fine thread.
What holds the seal set
The spring holds the seals extended once they are set, so the panel stays sealed whether or not anyone is holding the handle.
The thread holds the seal at a repeatable position, so the seal is set to a figure rather than by feel.
What it needs in the panel
Room for the winding unit and the crank, and nothing else.
More panel depth, and the steel braced frame to carry it - which is why it is not offered on the aluminium-framed NW831 and NW840.
How it is operated
A crank on the panel face, worked by hand.
A crank on the panel face turned against a screw - more turns, and more effort for the same result.
When to specify it
The default on every model, and the right answer unless there is a reason not to.
Where the seal has to be set to a repeatable position: an automated run, or a room worked by staff who should not be handling panels.
Which model takes which. The push-to-extend spring mechanism is available on NW831, NW840 and NW840-W. The jack-type mechanism is a NW840-W option only, because it needs the steel braced frame - on NW831 and NW840 the panel is aluminium framed and the mechanism is the spring type.
Four Vertical Sections, One Sheet
The same opening drawn four ways. Read the dimension chain down the left of each section: 200 mm from the track to the structural soffit, 86 mm of track and trolley, and a head assembly of 125 / 82 / 57 mm that is identical across all four build-ups. What changes is the panel - 80, 100, 92 or 96 mm - and whether the frame is aluminium or steel.
Figure 1 - vertical sections at the head, the track and the base. From left: NW831, 80 mm aluminium frame; NW840, 100 mm aluminium frame; NW840-W, 92 mm steel frame with a trimless edge; NW840-W, 96 mm steel frame with a trimmed edge. All four run on the same anodised aluminium track and the same 86 mm trolley set. Dimensions in millimetres.
What a model change does and does not move. The track and the head assembly are common to all four build-ups, so swapping NW831 for NW840 - or NW840 for NW840-W - normally leaves the ceiling detail alone. The base does change: the finished floor clearance reads 30 mm on the 100 mm and steel-framed panels and 22-23 mm on the 80 mm NW831, because the telescopic mechanism is a different length. Set the track height from the finished floor line once the floor build-up is fixed.
Trimless or Trimmed Edge
The vertical edge is a finish decision and a handling decision. It is available on NW840 and NW840-W, and not on NW831 - the 80 mm panel uses an aluminium profile with a sealing strip.
Trimless edge. The face material runs to the joint line and the aluminium frame sits behind a flush cover, so the closed run reads as one continuous surface. Specified where the wall is a design element rather than a divider.Trimmed edge. A profiled aluminium trim caps the panel edge and stays visible on both faces. It protects the edge of the facing, and it gives the operator a defined handhold when the panel is moved by hand.
Which one to specify. A trimless edge is a cleaner line and is the usual choice in a boardroom or a hotel function room. A trimmed edge survives a busy room better, because the facing is not carried to the arris. Both are supplied with the same sealing strip and the same retractable board behind the joint.
The Pass Door
A pass door is a door inside the partition, so the room stays usable when the wall is open. It is set in a single or a double leaf, with a lever handle on each side and a perimeter seal that closes with the leaf.
Pass door in a single opening. The leaf sits inside the panel, below the track, and swings on its own hinges. The card holder and the lock set are standard on a door that is used daily; the lever is the same on both sides so the door reads the same whichever way it is pushed. The two arrangements. A telescopic panel closes the last gap out of the stack, so a door is formed without a full panel width of stacking space. A hinged leaf is the alternative where the stack is long enough to take it. Which one applies is fixed on the shop drawing, because it changes the stacking length.
The pass door is an option on all three models, not a separate system. It is quoted with the wall, and the leaf type is set on the shop drawing because it decides how much stacking space the run needs.

Options
Pass door
Single or double door set within the panel, with lever handles and perimeter seals. Optional lock.
Pocket door
Sliding leaf parks inside a wall-side pocket, so no leaf remains in the opening when it is open.
Inset writing surface
Markerboard, projection and writing surfaces, tackboards and recessed eraser pockets.
Vision panel
Inset glazing for sightlines into the closed room.
Fire-rated build-up
HPL, vinyl and MDF core options carry separate fire classifications — see the specification table.
Trimless or trimmed edge
NW840 and NW840-W take a flush trimless joint or a profiled aluminium trim. NW831 uses an aluminium profile with a sealing strip, and does not take either edge.

Installation & Support Requirements
Overhead track requires structural support capable of carrying total wall weight plus dynamic load factor.
Minimum header depth of 150 mm (6 in) required for track and panel stacking.
Floor must be level within ±3 mm over 3 m span for proper seal contact.
Track height set from finished floor line once floor build-up is fixed.
Wall-to-wall or wall-to-ceiling closures require aluminum closing profile.
Warranty
2 Years
Panel Warranty

5 Years
Track & Trolley Warranty
Against defects in materials and workmanship, effective from the date of substantial completion.
No. All three models are top-hung only. All panel weight is carried by the overhead track, so the finished floor stays uninterrupted.
What is the acoustic rating?
NW831: STC 40/43/45 dB. NW840: STC 45/48/50 dB. NW840-W: STC 50/53/55 dB. All per ASTM E413. The panel build-up is identical across the range — what changes is thickness, frame material and how the seals are operated.
Can panels go around corners?
Yes. Twin-point suspension allows panels to navigate corners and curved track sections. Discuss layout at quote stage.
How are the seals operated?
NW831 and NW840 are manual only, using an operating lever. NW840-W takes a manual handle as standard and is the only model that can be supplied with semi-automatic or fully automatic seals.
What is the difference between trimless and trimmed edge?
Trimless edge: face material runs to the joint line, frame concealed behind flush cover. Trimmed edge: profiled aluminium trim caps the panel edge. Both available on NW840 and NW840-W only.
