Models NW840 · NW840-W — Steel rail, twin point carriers, up to 18 000 mm (59 ft)
Operable Partitions for Tall Openings
A tall opening is not a bigger version of a standard one. Three things change together: the track goes from an aluminium profile to a steel rail with an anti-rust coating, the suspension goes to twin point on every panel, and the panel goes to the heavier build — 100 mm aluminium on NW840, 92 or 96 mm steel on NW840-W. Both models are offered here. NW840 is the aluminium-framed 100 mm panel and NW840-W the steel-framed build, which is the platform rated to 18 000 mm.

How It Operates
1
The Track Becomes a Steel Rail
An anti-rust coated steel rail replaces the extruded aluminium profile. It is the part that has to carry the stack without deflecting across the opening.
2
Every Panel Goes Twin Point
Two carriers per panel, not one. Twin point spreads the load and holds a tall panel against twist, so it stays plumb through the run.
3
The Panel Goes to the Heavy Build
100 mm aluminium on NW840, 92 or 96 mm steel on NW840-W. A tall panel has to stay flat and stay square, and the heavier frame is what does that.
4
The Stacking Is Engineered
Double roller sets, and a stacking layout drawn against the actual panel weight. The space at the end of the run is a structural decision at this height, not a leftover.

Construction Details - Tall Openings
The panel is the same panel; the track and the suspension are not. The drawings below show the panel that goes up - here on the jack-type mechanism that the steel frame carries - how it is carried on the steel rail, how the joint closes at height, and how a tall run parks.

Panel Build-up
NW840-W - Steel Frame Panel
Steel frame - what keeps a tall panel flat and square through the cycles, and the reason the platform reaches 18 000 mm.
Four-finger seals - a multi-finger joint seal, which is where the acoustic gain over NW840 comes from.
Jack mechanism - the seal bars are driven from a jack inside the panel, which matters when the bar has metres of travel.
Edge - trimless at 92 mm, trimmed at 96 mm.

Suspension
Twin Point Carriers on a Steel Rail
Twin point on every panel is mandatory at height, not optional. Two carriers spread the load and hold the panel against twist.
The rail is steel, anti-rust coated, in place of the extruded aluminium track used on the standard systems.
Headroom between rail and structural slab is by others, and is set from the finished floor line once the floor build-up is fixed.

Joint
Horizontal Section Through the Joint
Lever closure brings the meeting edges together before the seals are set - at height the order matters more, because the panel has further to travel.
Bulb seal at the jamb takes up the building tolerance, which is larger on a tall opening.
Trimmed and trimless versions of the same joint.

Panel Anatomy
Seals and the Jack-type Mechanism
Top pressure seal closes against the rail; the bar has to be straight over the full panel height for the seal to land.
Jack-type mechanism - a screw jack on the steel braced frame sets the seal bars against a fine thread, so the seal goes to a repeatable position rather than being set by feel. It is a NW840-W option: it needs the steel frame to carry it. NW840 on this platform takes the push-to-extend spring mechanism instead.
Steel braced frame is what holds the panel square, which is the whole argument for the steel build at height.
The telescopic sleeve panel on the right is the same panel seen from the other side, in the two positions it runs through. The red arrows mark the direction the panels travel when the run opens and closes.

Pass Doors
Telescopic Panel and Hinged Door
Telescopic panel forms a door out of the stack without a full panel width of stacking space - useful when the stack is already deep.
Hinged door for a normal single-leaf opening in the run.
Leaf weight at height is a different engineering problem from a standard leaf, and is confirmed on the shop drawing.

Note on acoustic data: the figures quoted as Rw are laboratory airborne sound insulation ratings for the panel build-up (ISO 717-1). Rw and STC are not interchangeable and are never converted into one another. STC appears in this range only where an ASTM E90 / ASTM E413 report exists, and the one report on file (XMIN180500970CCM) is for a specimen of 52.4 kg/m², which matches the NW840-W weight band more closely than any other model. The report has not yet been matched to a part number, so it is marked △ and must not be quoted as a model rating until that match is confirmed.
The Carrier and the Hanging System
This is the kit a tall run is hung from. The carrier carries the panel, the rod adjusts it, and the rail carries the lot back to the structure - and where the run has to turn, the same track joint is formed on a radius.
The steel trolley. Two rollers running in the rail, a body that holds the carrier, and a threaded rod that adjusts the height of the whole assembly. Two of these carry every panel on a tall run - one near each end, which is what holds a 12 m panel against twist. The hanging system, in section. The carrier sits inside the rail profile and the rod drops through the slot in the web. The section shows the rail either side of the carrier, and the plate the panel is fixed to. This is the detail the structural engineer is drawing against. The same assembly, as supplied. The carrier body, the adjustable rod and the base plate that fixes to the panel carrier. The rod is what the installer turns to bring the panel to the finished floor line - so its position is set and recorded on the shop drawing, not on site. The steel rail. The anti-rust coated steel section that replaces the extruded aluminium track above 6 000 mm. It is a heavier, deeper profile than the standard track, because it has to carry the accumulated weight of a tall stack without deflecting across the opening. The section is what the beam above is designed to.Track joint splice plates. The plates that bolt two lengths of rail together. A run is built from sections rather than one long length, and this is the joint between them: the carrier has to run across the splice without a step, and the bolt heads are set below the running surface so the trolley does not hit them. The same joint, formed on a curve. This is how a curved run is made: the straight rail is cut to the angle and the joint is bolted up to match, so the carrier follows the curve. The radius is confirmed per project, against the space the run has to turn in - a tighter radius means slower carrier travel, which is a timing question on an automated run.
Where the load actually goes. Panel weight goes through the two trolleys into the rail, and from the rail into the structure above. The rail is the item that has to be designed by others, to the load we issue - and at height the deflection limit matters as much as the strength.
Stacking a Tall Run
At height the stack is the part that most often needs the drawing checked early. A tall panel is heavy, the stack is deep, and the space it needs at the end of the run has to be found in the structure rather than assumed.
Double roller stacking. Five standard arrangements for the heavy roller set, drawn in plan against a deep recess. Which one applies is set on the stacking drawing against the space you actually have.A tall stack in service. Panels parked along the wall of a sports hall. At this height the stack depth and the handling arrangement are what the structure has to accommodate. The pass door. A door set in the panel, below the track, with a lever on both sides and a perimeter seal that closes with the leaf. At height the leaf weight is a different engineering problem from a standard leaf, and it is confirmed on the shop drawing.
The stack is a structural question. Tell us the panels, the height and the space at the end of the run, and the stacking arrangement and its load are issued on the shop drawing. Do not leave the stack to the end of the design - at 12 m and above it is usually the constraint, not the opening.

NW831 is not offered for tall openings: the 80 mm panel and its 4 000 mm limit put it outside this application. The choice at height is between the aluminium-framed 100 mm NW840 and the steel-framed NW840-W, and it is settled on panel height, acoustic target and the load the structure can take.
What is the maximum height?
18 000 mm (59 ft) is the platform rating for NW840-W on the steel rail. It is not a default: every tall opening is reviewed against the panel width, the acoustic target and the load the structure above can take, and the quoted height is the height we will warrant. The △ in the NW840 column means the figure is project-specific, not unavailable.
What changes at height?
Four things move together: the track becomes a steel rail with anti-rust coating, every panel goes twin point (two carriers per panel), the panel goes to the heavy build (100 mm aluminium or 92/96 mm steel), and the stacking is engineered with double roller sets.
What is the acoustic rating?
NW840: Rw 45/48/50 dB. NW840-W: Rw 50/53/55 dB. All per ISO 717-1. STC 55 dB (ASTM E90) is available for NW840-W only, marked △ pending part number confirmation.
Can tall openings use paired panels?
No. A tall opening is built as single panels. Paired hinged panels are not offered at this height — the pair would have to be carried, turned and parked as a unit, and the stack it needs is not the stack a tall opening can usually give up.
Where does the load actually go?
Panel weight goes through the two trolleys into the rail, and from the rail into the structure above. The rail is the item that has to be designed by others, to the load we issue — and at height the deflection limit matters as much as the strength.
